Our Story
Where it all began
Biowin was founded in 2019 by Wayne Tian and Alistair Steven, bringing together complementary experience in product development and Australian agriculture.
Wayne came from product management in the biological fertiliser industry. Alistair brought more than 30 years of agricultural experience, including senior management and national fertiliser roles at Elders and Landmark.
They believed there was room to bring practical innovation to Australian growers while maintaining the quality, reliability and competitive pricing they expected from established fertilisers. That belief became the foundation of Biowin.
The first challenge: Universal
Universal, Biowin's first product, began with a difficult question: how could the classic blue NPK 12-5-14 be improved when world-leading manufacturers had already set a high standard?
Wayne aimed to incorporate humate and beneficial microorganisms while maintaining full nutrient content, superb handling properties and a competitive price. Early formulations repeatedly fell short.
After many adjustments and production trials, Universal met the team's expectations. The lesson stayed with Biowin: meaningful innovation must build on proven performance, not compromise it.

Earning trust, season after season
Biowin's relationships with Australian growers and distributors have developed steadily since its early years. They were built on consistent product quality, competitive pricing and a commitment to doing what was promised.
Trust is earned over time, often across many growing seasons. Customers need to know that products will perform as expected and that the people supplying them understand the practical demands of farming.
That is why Biowin continues to value straightforward communication, responsive service and feedback from the customers who use its products every day.

Keeping curiosity at the heart of development
In 2026, Biowin established a new R&D centre at the Nanjing National Agricultural Innovation Centre, creating a dedicated base for formulation development and evaluation, with access to shared analytical facilities.
Biowin also works with professors from Nanjing Agricultural University and the Institute of Soil Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, drawing on scientific expertise to investigate new ingredients and assess their potential.
The aim is practical: to turn promising ideas into commercially viable fertilisers that can be manufactured consistently, handled reliably and used with confidence on Australian farms.
Australian Knowledge. Global Reach.
Biowin brings together Australian agricultural experience, research and development in Nanjing, and an international network of manufacturing partners. These strengths help the company develop practical products for its customers.
Fertiliser supply chains do not always run to plan. A delayed shipment can disrupt plans during a critical growing period, so Biowin works closely with manufacturers to manage risks and support more dependable delivery.
From developing better formulations to keeping products available when they are needed, the goal remains the same: reliable fertilisers, practical innovation and lasting value for Australian agriculture.
